Residency Program

Neurology Serviced Based Philosophy

The central guiding principles are:

  • Placing resident education as a primary goal - on par with patient care.
  • Recognizing the increasing importance of sub-specialization in neurology while continuing to train general neurologists.
  • Creating rotations that encompass inpatient services, outpatient clinics and diagnostic testing in a manner that more closely resembles "real world" neurology.
  • Adhering to the 80 hour work week without compromising resident education or patient care.

Neurology Service Implementation: How it works

The neurology service is organized by:

  • General Neurology
  • Stroke
  • Epilepsy
  • Neuromuscular
  • Pediatrics

Each service cares for patients at both Univerisity of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics and the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital

Each service consists of attending staff, a neurology resident and medical studients. Epilepsy, stroke and neuromuscular and may also have a Fellow.

Each service cares for patients admitted to the hospital, maintains outpatient clinics and evaluates related diagnostic services.

Other subspecialtie services such as headache, sleep, MS and movement disorders are covered through sub-specialty clinic rotations or through elective time.
